DOCUMENTATION
THE SACRED WAY, 27KM
PROCCESS
A group of four, Hal, HaiRong, Lucy and me decided to embark on a 27.5 Km walk tracing the sacred way of the Eleusinian Mysteries. We began our walk at 5 A.M. from Athens towards Elefsina. The landscapes around us transitioned from city to suburbs to forests and hills. We encountered cicadas, turtles, a patch of burnt forest, a shooting range and very kind people along the way.
While the morning started out very well, we were under prepared for the harsh 38°C sun and difficult terrain. We came across a small family run shop in a small settlement after we crossed Mount Aigaleo. There we met up with prof. Imamura and took our first big break at the shop where he waited for us. When Yannis and Chirstiana from the shop understood that we walked all the way there from Athens and that we were attempting to walk the entierity of the sacred road, they offered us free water, melons and cherries. They were the most delicious melons and cherries we had. After a few hours of conversing through google translate, we continued our journey.
While we had to call an end to our walk due to symptoms of heatstroke and a section next to highway traffic, this experience greatly shaped our final responses at the exhibition "Common Grounds"
